BING - NUUHIWA LIGHTWEIGHT 1967
BING COPELAND HAS AN INCREDIBLE LIFE STORY. SURFED BIG WAVES AT SUNSET IN THE 50'S, CREWED ON A SAIL FROM HAWAII TO TAHITI. EVENTUALLY ENDED UP IN NEW ZEALAND WHERE HE SURFED AND MADE SOME BOARDS FOR THE LOCALS. BACK ON THE MAINLAND, HE SHAPED BOARDS FOR FRIENDS OUT OF HIS GARAGE AND IN 1959 OPENED HIS FIRST SHOP IN HERMOSA BEACH.
THIS BOARD HAS THE BEAUTIFUL AND HIGHLY COVETED CUSTOM TIGER STRIPE BOTTOM IN PIGMENT..
A TRUE COLLECTORS BOARD THAT NEEDS TO BE RIDDEN ONCE MORE BEFORE HUNG ON THE WALL FOR ALL TO SEE.-- A REAL WORK OF ART IN SHAPE AND DESIGN.
MEASURES 9'3".
This 9'3" lightweight longboard is as colorful as the famous Hawaiian surfer who helped to create it. Made and signed by Bing Copeland, in conjunction with the famous goofyfoot surfer David Nuuhiwa. Nuuhiwa is considered to be one of the best surfers of the 1960's, and he was certainly one of the flashiest. He was the winner of the United States Surfing Championship in 1968 and 1971 and runner up in the 1972 World Surfing Championships. He was also listed by Phil Edwards in Surfer Magazine, 1965, as the world's best noserider. The board is particularly light, and is about an inch thinner that the boards of the time. It has a rounded nose for heightened performance capabilities. Visually, the most interesting feature is the Acid Wash pattern applied to the bottom and curled up over on to the edges of the deck. Has a beautiful green glass fin set in the original fin box. The board is in excellent condition with only a few minor blemishes.
