San Louis Obispo is a beautiful town and according to Oprah Winfrey, The Happiest City in the USA. Easy to agree with Oprah after discovering six antique, retro, and vintage malls and shops there. Ruby Rose, Brooks Woodcraft and Antiques, The Antique Center, Antique Boutique, Antiques on Monterey, and SLO Antique Treasures are all just a stones throw away from each other.

We found a variety of arts and crafts, art nuveau, mission, and mid century items in San Luis Obispo. No sooner than George Martines signed his Antique Center up for the map, Omega cinema Props called us while we were still in the shop. We picked up a pair of vintage mid century Isophone Hi-fi speakers for their inventory as a favor.
A Glance into the Past Antiques in San Luis Obispo
Minutes down Highway 101 is Arroyo Grande. This quaint town has a number of fine shops to discover. Be sure and check out A Glance Into the Past where you'll find items ranging from fine antique furniture to vintage toys. Moving into a new space and imagining all the possibilities can easily take you from a state of exhilaration to an anxiety attack. The shiny keys to my new apartment were placed in my hand less than a week ago and I could not wait to get started on my blank space. I flipped through magazines for wall color ideas and I scanned my current home desperately to see what was going to work in my new space and what I needed to get rid of.
For the kitchen, I used Benjamin Moore's Tequila Lime Green which I found in Sunset Magazine's Idea Houses. (pictured below)

After several hours of painting it dawned on me that all the incredible ideas that I had created in my head were going to take much longer than I had planned. I came to the realization that hiring someone to do what I simply do not have time for would be best.

Blogger and owner of Alchemy in Santa Ana, Deana has a knack for transforming old, beat up furniture into elegant timeless pieces. Not only is her store full of eclectic antique and vintage decor items she also offers custom sewing services right inside her shop.
I definitely need curtains for my new place and Deana seems like just the gal for the job! Designing for a new home is quite a task and tackling it alone is not necessary. Leave it to the professionals and have your vision come to life!

I happened to be in the West Hollywood area in L.A near the Farmer’s Market this week and realized I was only a few blocks away from Rehab Vintage on Beverly Blvd. I pulled out my Shopper’s Map as a reminder of their exact location (they are listed under the name Sonrisa in the L.A. Map) and found great parking on the adjacent residential street.
The store sign above the doors still says Sonrisa, the word in Spanish means smile, but are transitioning into their new name, Rehab Vintage. I took a few photos of my favorite items and chatted with the owners a bit.
Rehab specializes in vintage steel desks and retro office furniture. They also have many fun accessory items like the handmade lock pictured above and these huge 12" hand-forged scissors pictured below. They are constantly bringing in new furniture and accessories. There is always something new at Rehab Vintage and even though they are changing their name they will always keep me smiling! Antique and Retro Shopper's Map is heading South and bringing you the best shops in San Diego! We know where all the shops are (and believe me there are tons) and putting the best stores on one convenient map. We're doing all the leg work and all you have to do is grab a map and go!
When I heard we were creating a San Diego Shoppers Map I immediately pictured myself taking fun road trips to the Southern California city and coming back with a tan and new treasures. The excitement of discovering new stores, meeting new people, and driving down the coast was just more than I could handle.
Here's a little sneak peak on the best areas of town you may want to visit:
Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach is not just known for its great surf and laid back attitude. The beach is also known for its vast antique malls and quaint shops.
North Park and Hillcrest
North Park not only has a lot of vintage and thrift stores but is also a great area to stop for an afternoon cocktail or close by is the San Diego Zoo inside of Balboa Park. Just a few miles West you will find yourself in the Hillcrest area where there are very hip shops including Wear It Again Sam and Frock You. Just two blocks down from Frock You is a great store that sells mid-century modern furniture and art called, Design One.
Little Italy/Kettner St.
Kettner St. is where you will find more upscale and high end shops. Nearby is Little Italy, and after a full day of shopping and sight seeing, an authentic plate of pasta and a glass of wine should hit the spot.
If you have time, take the scenic route and drive down the Pacific Coast Highway to San Diego. All of the beach towns along the way are amazing and unique. If you only have a day just hop on the freeway and from the LA area it should only take a couple hours. Imagine that, a new city to discover or re-discover only a couple hours away!
