Mid-century fashion and style has experienced a resurgence in the last few years.  Shows like Mad Men and now Pan Am are taking audiences back to a time of impeccable fashion and are making knee-length skirts sexy again.

Mixing new reproduction or vintage 1950s clothing and accessories with your current wardrobe can be easier than you think.  Bettie Page Clothing in Hollywood is a great place to find reproductions of 1950s era-style clothing.  Meow in Long Beach has top quality vintage clothing from many decades and you can find many deadstock pieces that have never been worn or very slightly used.

Celebrities Spotted in Vintage Dresses

A few stand-out celebrities embrace vintage fashion regularly on the red carpet and on the streets. We don’t always realize how glamorous vintage can be until a celeb sports a Versace or Dior and any person with even a slight fashion sense can see the boldness of vintage.  Julie Berman (pictured above) is no stranger to vintage fashion.  She wore a crème vintage Versace gown to the 36^th Daytime Emmy Awards and received an Outstanding Young Actress Emmy.

Kristen Davis from Sex and the City wore a rare vintage Mila Schon dress on the David Letterman Show last month.  Absolutely stunning!

'Mad Men' Set Decorator Shopping in Pasadena, CA

The AMC television drama, ‘Mad Men’ is vintage eye candy. The show has been on the air for two years and has caught the attention of viewers and critics alike for its historical accuracy and visually stunning sets and costumes.  

 

Grammy-nominated set decorator, Amy Wells, creates perfect 1960s swanky New York City interiors and a recent LA Times article reveals Wells’ design secrets and tips.  Her job is to find period pieces and restore and refinish as necessary and then create a believable set.   

Pasadena, CA is where she finds her most useful pieces.  LA Times quoted Well’s, “Pasadena has the crème de la crème of used furniture stores on this part of the planet.”  She frequents many of the stores on our Pasadena Shoppers Map, including Pasadena Antique Center, Modern Zoo and Revival Antiques in Pasadena. 

Her best advice: “The secret of secondhand shopping is sifting through the junk.”
